Sharon Browning – Physician

Sharon Browning, MD

Dr. Sharon Browning joined the Sandhills Medical Foundation, Inc. team in 2017. She is from New Jersey and completed a medical degree at the American University of the Caribbean. She also attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham to complete a residency and served as chief resident her last 2 years. She practiced in rural Alabama before moving to Nashville, TN, where she had a solo practice for 10 years. Her husband relocated to Charlotte and she missed rural medicine. Seven years later, she loves rural medicine even more and enjoys being a part of the Sandhills Medical family. She has been married to Russ for 24 years and has 2 children and says that family time is the ultimate best.

Clifford Bowers – Physician

Dr. Bowers has been providing quality care at Sandhills Medical since 2021. He is a U.S Army veteran and active Brigade Surgeon with the South Carolina Army National Guard. He is a dual Board Certified Family Medicine Physician. With degrees from Wofford College, Emory University and Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine, he treats and manages the full spectrum of acute and chronic medical conditions.

Laura Alberg – Physician

Laura Alberg, MD

Dr. Alberg joined Sandhills Medical in 2019. Dr. Alberg is a bachelor of arts  graduate of Duke University.  She received her medical degree from Georgetown University and completed a pediatric residency at Georgetown Hospital in Washington D.C. She practiced for many years in suburban Baltimore before moving to South Carolina, initially practicing  in Mount Pleasant, also for many years, before moving to Columbia.  She is married with two sons and remains dedicated to the practice of pediatric medicine.

Nigel Taylor – Physician

Nigel E. Taylor, MD

Dr. Nigel E. Taylor is a native of Kingston, Jamaica. He graduated from Jamaica’s most prestigious high school, Campion College, leaving as the Head of the Student Government. He moved on to the University of The West Indies where he completed a Double Major in Biochemistry and Zoology graduating with Honors. From there Nigel completed his Medical Degree in 2000 (also at the University Of The West Indies) and proceeded to do post graduate studies in Family Medicine at the University of Connecticut where he served as Co-Chief resident in his final year (2006). Dr. Taylor’s interests include Sports Medicine and Medical Imaging. He holds an Advanced Diploma in Ultrasound from The Michener Institute of Canada (2016).   A former Jamaica National Under 17 soccer player he is now involved in coaching and holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) B-license.  Nigel is married to Angela Case-Taylor, a pharmaceutical marketing executive, and they have two children Alexander and Savannah.  He has served as a Family Physician in Connecticut, South Carolina and Jamaica.

Nurse Practitioners

Ashley Tolbert, MSN,  CPNP

Ashley joined the Sandhills staff in 2014. She received her Bachelor of Science from USC Upstate in 2009 and her Master of Science in Nursing from The University of South Alabama in 2013. She is a Board Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, and provides services to patients, birth through adolescence. Ashley is also an active member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and 2 dogs, Baylie and Benji.

Ayzia Taylor – NP

Ayzia Taylor, MSN,  NP

Ayzia Taylor joined the Sandhills staff in 2016. She is a native of Lugoff, SC, graduating from Lugoff Elgin High school in 2003. After high school she attended College of Charleston to complete her B.S. in Psychology. Once completing that degree she knew she wanted to attend nursing school. She has moved up the nursing ranks and started as an LPN in 2009, moving to an RN in 2011. In 2013 she completed her first Masters in Nursing from University of Phoenix, and then later graduated with her second Masters in Nursing from Medical University of South Carolina, concentrating in Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She has been a pediatric nurse for 8 years with a huge passion for patient and parent education. She has inpatient and outpatient pediatric experience, 7 years of pediatric office experience and 4 years of hospital experience at the Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. She is married with 2 children. She loves spending time with her family in and outside of the home.

David Thompson – NP

David Thompson, NP

David joined Sandhills staff in 2011. David has over 20 years of critical care experience. He served as an Licensed Practical Nurse in the Armed Forces.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of South Carolina Upstate and Master of Science in Nursing Indiana State University. David has been a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner since 2008.

Karen Clyburn – NP

Karen Clyburn, NP

Karen joined Sandhills staff in 2011. She has experience with managing acute illnesses and chronic complex multi-system disease processes. Karen has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lander University. Karen received a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from Indiana State University. She holds a license from the Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioners.

Kenya Thomas – NP

Kenya Thomas, NP

Kenya Thomas joined Sandhills staff in 2022. She received her bachelor’s degree from USC Aiken and her master’s degree from Francis Marion University. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and holds a certification in Family Medicine, offering care to clients from birth to end of life. Kenya is excited to be a part of the team and is looking forward to developing relationships with her patients.

Montrice Curenton – NP

Montrice Curenton, NP-C

Montrice comes to us with 20 years of nursing experience, with her background being Med-Surg. She has enjoyed her lifelong learning experience. She received her LPN from Piedmont Technical College in 1997. She received her RN from Regents College in 1999. She received her BSN from Excelsior College in 2011. She later received her MSN from Excelsior College in 2014. She then received her Post Graduate Nurse Practitioner Certification from Maryville University in 2016. She was inducted in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She proudly joined Sandhills Medical Foundation in 2016.

Physician Assistants

Drew Murphy, MHS, PAC-C

Drew joined the Sandhills Medical Foundation team in October 2015.  Drew has spent most of his life in Summerville, SC, and he received his Bachelor of Science from Clemson University.  After graduating from Clemson, he gained healthcare experience as a Heart and Vascular Technician at the Medical University of South Carolina.  Drew attended Duke University and graduated with a Master of Health Science and Physician Assistant Certificate.  He was later certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).   Drew is happy to treat all ages.  Drew has a special interest in animal-related illnesses and injuries.  In his free time, Drew enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter.  He is an avid college football, soccer, and comic book fan.

Psychiatrists

Ayodele Ogunforowa, MD

Dr. Ogunforowa obtained his medical degree of psychiatry from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He completed his residency at St. Vincent Hospital in New York, New York in 1999. Dr. Ogunforowa has been practicing in South Carolina since 2000. Presently, he is also employed with Santee Wateree Mental Health. Sandhills Medical Foundation Staff Member Since: 2006

Behavioral Health Therapist

Anna Lee, LISW-CP

Anna Lee earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Work degree at East Tennessee State University and a Master of Science in Social Work degree at University of Tennessee. She has worked in health care for many years, beginning in the field of nursing as an LPN, with a focus primarily on Psychiatric and Substance Use treatment.

After completing the Social Work degrees, Ms. Lee was a Medical Social Worker for several years at a hospital which contained a level one trauma center, and she continued to volunteer at the Veterans Affairs center where she’d had two internships. She then worked several years as a Counselor for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, leaving in 2010 to join the Sandhills Medical Foundation team.

Ms. Lee provides Behavioral Health services to adults, adolescents, children, and families. She uses a variety of techniques, with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy being the most prevalent, to help others achieve their individual treatment goals.

Glenda Quick, LMSW, AADC

Glenda Quick received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology/Counseling degree at Coker College and a Master of Science Social Work degree at University of New England. She holds credentials as a Licensed Master Social Worker and holds state certifications in Advanced Alcohol and Drug counseling and Gambling. She has worked in behavioral health care for 25 years working with adults, adolescents, children, families, groups, and geriatric end-of-life issues. She is proud to now be a part of the Sandhills Medical Foundation Staff.

Meghan Bowden, LMSW, VSP

Meghan first joined the SMF family as a counselor in 2020. Meghan comes to SMF with extensive background working with children, adolescents, and adults in non-profit and social services settings. Meghan received her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, then shortly after, completed her Master of Social Work degree as well as a Graduate Certificate in Drug and Addiction Studies from the University of South Carolina with honors. Meghan is a passionate advocate for mental health and in her free time enjoys spending time with her family and two rescue dogs.

Chiropractor

William “Bill” Wagers – Chiropractor

Dr. Wagers joined Sandhills Medical in 2022.  He is a native South Carolinian who attended Winthrop College for his undergraduate degree in biology. Always interested in healthcare, he chose to attend Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, GA.  There he graduated with honors as a Doctor of Chiropractic.  Upon graduation returned to his home state and has practiced for over 36 years.  Prior to joining Sandhills medical, he enjoyed serving the people of Camden and surrounding communities through his private practice.  He now serves the same communities from the Lugoff and McBee offices of SMF.  He is married to his wife of thirty-four years. They have three children and one grandchild.  When he is not in the office he enjoys his family farm, woodworking, and playing tennis.
